The movement of the capote by Irene Guerra & Ignacio Melero
Ideas Competition for the architectural renovation of the Plaza de Toros de Palencia: The movement of the cape.
Bet on a clear and convincing proposal, which solves the covering of the square and the creation of a new enclosure with a single architectural element. A continuous band changes its function closing to become the structural arch, which are anchored by straps that slide retractable fabric that will allow the covering of the square.
The analysis of the movement of the cape has been the generator of the idea of the project.
If we study the silhouettes that the cloak drawn over the air and on the sand of the arena, we will realize how it generates a wave motion defined by the changing shape, shadows, speed, and movement of the bull. This generates a constant dynamic envelope around the bullfighter becomes the generating project.
The center position of the arc on the ground one and two thirds of the total light curve to cover and have been carefully studied from the viewpoint of sunlight to prevent the arc cast a shadow cast over the arena for the bullfights and provide exceptionally sun protection possible on all of the square with the extension of only two thirds of the roof.
The front door is emphasized and defined with the origin and the end of the band envelope generator for the project.
