Polyhedron architecture in Bogotá by Manuel Villa Largacha

On the outskirts of Bogotá, the architect Manuel Villa designed this small building that serves as additional space to the home of a family with a son a few years.

The project is conceived in the back garden of a house located on the outskirts of the city, a small park or open space, in which parents with her new child, build a separate place to the domestic spaces of the home to share moments of leisure, play, reading, etc. To meet the objectives and planning for the long-term space, we propose that the open space is supported by a small building to complement and support outreach activities and serve as a refuge in which the child shares with his parents, and in which the long term, the development activities of particular interest.

Building support in the face oriented toward the natural landscape becomes a complementary space, which provides the functions of protection, shelter, or area of residence. Looking for a lightweight design, which does justice to the feelings of protection and shelter, and allow the development of some indoor activities, learning activities, environment and space perception. The project takes as its fundamental concept realization perceptual processes of the ways of a child in its first years, for children pure forms are one of the key factors for the development of knowledge through them and their differentiation is introduced to learning to read and then the domain of geometric fundamentals. And projecting a regular polyhedron – “Cuboctahedron Truncado” – turned into a living space, a freestanding volume open at one of their foreheads to the landscape, with small openings in its sides and top to allow entry Best daylight and ventilation conditions. Inside space is endowed with a drawing area, a service unit and a rest area-sofa.
