Nian House in Taiwan by Chen Tien Chu

The living room, kitchen and patio visually join a movement and a great opening to the sky.

“Nian house is located in a residential area in Taichung County in Taiwan. This area is characterized by its status as cultural tour, including the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, the Taichung Municipal Cultural Center and the Art Walk. The four levels of the house and courtyard allow families to maintain their privacy in this dense metropolitan area
The living room, kitchen and patio are linked visually by a movement and a great opening to the sky. At this level the patio serves as a place for breakfast, or chat room where children do their homework, is the heart of family life.

The rooms, however, are the private spaces of the house. Only the study and the roof terrace are parallel to them spaces that provide recreation for families, read and watch the stars at night.

The access door faces a narrow street neighbor distance is very short, therefore, there is very little privacy at this point. One opening was designed following the existing lines in the neighborhood.
