Making a house on the hill Garcia

Making a house on a rocky desert hill slopes, but without interrupting and dominating the surrounding landscape is the concept of building this house. To design the structure design of the house, used building materials such as pallets of material from Integra sandblasted block, steel, concrete birch and simple, durable and responsive to the desert climate, color and texture. With good architecture and design, materials used in building materials can produce remarkable room.

Home made Gracia-dominated area of the site with steep slope overlooking the northern foothills of Tucson. From this place looks scenery and the green lights of the surrounding mountains. To view the beautiful scenery around, is designed to narrow three-bay porch on the hill. We used the middle bay, the entry “gallery”, for both circulation and as an extension of the living spaces.  It invites the visitor down to the living, dining and kitchen spaces on the lowest platform, while connecting the house to the bedrooms on the upper level.

The outstanding city view led us to break the house axis and rotate the main window to frame fantastic views of the Tucson city lights and the Catalina Mountains to the northeast.  We introduced south sun to the living spaces by splitting the bedrooms apart, thereby creating a small intimate courtyard with a view up the ridge.
