Gwanggyo Power Centre, green building eco-city by MVRDV
The architectural firm MVRDV won the competition sponsored by Daewoo to design a new city in South Korea. But nothing to do with what these parts has been done by Pocero. Gwanggyo, so this spectacular city is called, will be an ecological urban center will house up to 77,000 inhabitants in 2011. The truth is that buildings and urban environments that are being planned for the near future no longer surprised by the lateness of its concept.
In this new city will have homes, offices, cultural and leisure centers, shops, parks … well, actually the whole city is in itself a large green area. According to the architects, all items are designed as rings that rise into the sky, with glass surfaces and terraces, where you place leafy plants that will improve ventilation. Thereby, they reduced energy expenditure and water, first taking advantage of sunlight and the other using the slopes of buildings to capture as much water as possible for reuse later.
To make matters worse, the Power Centre will be surrounded by a lake and wooded hills, creating a “landscape within the landscape” that will increase the green qualities uniting the buildings and urban life with the natural environment.
