Gather House in Osaka, Japan by Miyamoto Katsushiro

The project involved the rehabilitation of a house with twenty-seven years old. The house built at ground level is in the south of Osaka. KatsushiroMiyamoto team faced all the problems presented by the house, including the need for a gate with a uniform, that would also extend the house. The architect selected a gate created from a thousand strips of 2 x 4 meters.

The architect thinks about this fence three courtyards that allowed improving the lighting and ventilation of the interior rooms. On the other hand the old, steep staircase was replaced with a more comfortable both plants also connects via a new atrium that did not exist previously.

Highlights are undoubtedly the 2.8 km sinuous ribbons that are available throughout the house creating a natural and harmonious environment. Thanks these curved folds that have been introduced in the wooden walls, the feeling of spaciousness is enhanced with respect to the original dwelling. Furthermore, these folds help serve seismically strengthen housing. Inside look like ribbons have even the design of furniture becoming somewhat overwhelming. At night, light seeps through the slats creating a beautiful play of light visible from the street.
