Chilean wood architecture

Houses built entirely of wood in southern Chile. A trip to Chile, where you can appreciate the architecture of the area:

“Chile. Land of lakes and forests. Houses built entirely of wood in the area. Contrasts …
Frutillar. Population of German origin founded in 1856 on the shores of Lake Llanquihue and surrounded by volcanoes.
Wooden houses whose design responded to the reigning European style in the early twentieth century.

Chiloe Island: fishing villages. Homes and simple wooden church built on stilts (stilts) required by the oscillation of the tides of the island.
Covered with tiles of different shapes instead of tables or straps.

Churches of Chiloé School of Architecture. Heritage of Humanity. ”

Chilean Architecture is an important tourist and cultural attraction in the region and in particular the Chiloé archipelago, which is manifested in entire villages, houses and many churches built entirely in larch, Dalcahue church, for example, has no type of nail or metal support. Unfortunately and as evidence of acculturation processes, this type of construction was gradually replaced in the island landscape for housing coated with zinc or aluminum material. It is worth noting here that are still running a project undertaken by the Spanish organization “Architects Without Borders” which has restored the “stilt” homes and have rebuilt typical tourist image of the provincial capital.

Another prominent architectural element is the legacy of German immigrants in cities like Osorno recognizable, Frutillar, Puerto Montt, Valdivia and others. In the city of Valdivia were complete architectural, such as General Lagos Street, which could have allowed the elaboration of an interesting cultural tour, which still exist, but each day is more difficult to structure a product of this nature, since the previous lack of urban planning policy and land properly, a task eminently responsibility of the local municipality, it had lost a lot of work that truly important economic traits. Today there is a strict policy on the preservation of these places.
